Mayco Crystal Glazes
Crystal Glazes are those magical potions in a jar. The dramatic effects obtained are almost endless as the crystals melt and flow during firing, letting the colors burst and bloom. The tiny "rocks" in the glaze are crystals of already-fired glazes ground to different sizes and mixed with a liquid base glaze. Three coats are required to produce the proper results. The trick is to evenly disperse the crystals over the desired surface. Crystal Glazes can be used for a decorative finish only on the outside of food containers. While some colors may be foodsafe, they have a delayed crazing that prohibits their use inside food containers. Firing to witness cone 06 is recommended for best results.

These glazes are more sensitive to kiln atmospheres than most glazes, so they're trickier to fire -- but they reward you with rich, vibrant colors for your efforts. For best results, maintain oxidizing conditions within the kiln.
