Meet Our New Teachers!
Andrew Kail WiL Labelle Jason Starin

Much as we'll miss Kristy Lombard, it takes three people to take her place! We'd like to introduce you to our new teaching staff here at Georgies. We have two new teachers along with Andrew Kail, who began teaching some classes last year.

• ANDREW KAIL is a functional potter and also works here at Georgies, assisting with your daily purchases and doing all of our custom firing. He just finished setting up his home studio. Andrew bring his love of life into the works he creates as everyday objects. Isn't that what handmade pottery is all about?

• JASON STARIN is a recent MFA graduate from OCAC with a focus on sculpture. Sculpture is a creative and often innovative way of thinking and working with clay. Jason will bring his enthusiasm and this fresh approach into the classroom.

• WIL LABELLE is originally from the coast of Maine. He began studying ceramics in 2001. He has worked in production potteries both large and small. He has done commissions both private and commercial. He is always looking for new ideas and inspirations to raise the bar of his own production. He produces dishes, wall hangings and sculpture.

Some things don't change: as always, our 8-week clay classes include clay, a wide variety of glazes, and firing. Our focus is on personal enrichment, having fun and learning a great life skill.

Fall classes begin
next Tuesday!

We have seats available in most classes. Click the vase to see our full schedule for the current September - December term.

(Georgies will be closed next Monday for Labor Day.)

Working at Cone 6 with Mayco Colors

Mayco's Paula WynDham returns on November 16th for a second hands-on workshop using Mayco lowfire (cone 06) and stoneware (cone 6) products together. You will work on two projects: using Stroke-&-Coats as washes with stoneware glazes, and using Mayco's pigments as media for image transfer. The pictures at left show both projects. Click on the thumbnails for more details.

Georgies will supply the colors and 6" bisque tile for the image transfer project. The lowfire wash project is BYOV: Bring Your Own Vase! The vase should be up to 12" tall, made with ^6 or ^10 clay, and bisque-fired to cone 04.

GLAZE FIRING AFTER THE WORKSHOP
IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CLASS FEE.

Wednesday, November 16, 10am - 1pm
25 seats available

is coming to Georgies!

The Peep Plug Show, sponsored by Skutt, has become an annual tradition at the NCECA conference*. Peep plug sculptures by their nature offer an exhilarating combination of whimsical humor and function: one of the rules of the show is that they have to work! Besides the cash prizes, it's a great opportunity for young artists to display their work at a high level in the K-12 competition.

Jamie M, K-12 Winner 2011 -->

Skutt says that the Peep Show is "at its heart a brilliant scheme set in motion by Skutt Ceramic Products Inc. to shamelessly promote their kilns while at the same time develop a private collection of the most valuable Peep Hole Plugs on earth for pennies on the dollar."

We're not sure if we believe the "brilliant scheme" part. But, hey, all that fire has to come from somewhere, right?

Aaaand Speak of the Devil: New Kilns!

Teachers and potters told Skutt they needed a line of kilns to hold lots of pots while still being easy for shorter potters to load. The people spoke, and Skutt listened! This new line of kilns provide that perfect mix of volume, safety and comfort for those who have difficulty opening and loading 27" deep kilns due to the height.

These new kilns come in three sizes: model KM822 measures 17.5"w by 22"d across the chamber, model KM1022 measures 23.5"w by 22"d, and model KM1222-3 measures 28.13"w by 22"d. Plus a great new glaze test kiln that really reaches cone 10!
