Slump & Hump Molds
Shimpo Hump Mold Throwing System The hump mold throwing system works on any Shimpo wheel. Place the bat adapter on the wheelhead, place your choice of molds on the bat adapter, and you're ready to work. Hump molds make it quick and easy for production potters to turn out massive numbers of nearly identical pieces. You can spend more time on surface, glaze and design, and less on making the basic forms.
So what exactly is a Hydro-Bat Hump Mold? The Hydro-Bat Hump Mold is a bat that you attach to your wheel-head to use while throwing. The mold attaches to the wheel with two rubber grommets embedded into the underside of the hydro-stone. After placing the hump mold on the wheel simply lay a slab on top of the hump mold. So think of it as throwing the backside of a form. You will still have to throw a foot by gathering clay from the slab or by attaching a coil and compressing it to the back. Hydro-Bat Hump molds allow beginners and professionals to consistently make forms with ease. We have a variety of forms and profiles within those forms. Just because these hump molds were designed to fit on the pottery wheel, doesn't mean you have to use them that way, they make great hand-building molds as well. ... are essential tools for handbuilding clay forms. These basic geometric shapes provide basic shapes like masks, plates and bowls so your creativity can run wild. Mayco Slump & Hump molds are sold together: you get two molds for your price! Storing them together with rubber bands, mold straps or twine helps protect them from harm. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SLUMP MOLD PROJECTS: Prepare a slab of clay 1/4" to 3/8" thick and large enough to slightly overhang the mold on all sides. Gently press clay into mold using a small cloth sandbag or similar tool. Trim away excess clay. Let the clay harden and dry to leather-hard, and remove it from the mold.
