Some longtimers in the pottery community still have fond memories of their old Skutt wheels. We still see them occasionally on the used equipment market. After many years of focusing on kilns, Skutt has re-entered the market by acquiring (or merging with) Thomas Stuart Wheels. With their classic styling, precise construction, and elegant finish, Thomas Stuart wheels are high quality equipment for serious potters. Multiple models at different power levels in two body styles allow you to choose the wheel that best meets your individual needs.

The original built-in splash pan design has a large work area ideal for holding a water bucket, tools, and lots of trimmings. The removable wheel head (just lift and twist) makes it easy to clean. The wheel head is recessed in the body of the wheel to work as an integrated splash pan.

The Prodigy's removable splash pan is just as easy: lift and twist the wheel head, then remove the one-piece splash pan. The Legend, Revolution and Premier models offer full-sized two-piece splash pans.

Why Choose Skutt Wheels by Thomas Stuart?
Because all electric motors are NOT the same -- even if they have the same horsepower rating.

Skutt wheels by Thomas Stuart use industrial "continual duty" motors, designed to run at full speed without overheating for as long as the user requires. Other wheels may use "peak-rated motors" intended to provide full power without overheating only for short periods. The torque produced by a wheel is the amount of power you have to center clay. High torque at low speeds is important for potters -- but providing high torque at low speeds generates more heat in the motor. Temperature is the greatest enemy of variable speed motors, leading to worn parts and eventual failure. The larger motors on Thomas Stuart wheels have superior insulation and more windings, which allow greater dissipation of motor heat, plus integrated fans for additional cooling. This allows these motors to run cooler and last longer. Plus the additional torque at lower speeds gives these wheels great centering capacity -- higher than other wheels rated at the same horsepower.
