Georgies offers a wide variety of raw materials for clays, glazes and other uses. If you don't find the materials you need, please contact us. We may be able to get it for you OR suggest suitable replacements. The Occupational Health & Safety Administration devised this color-coded numerical ratings system to quickly and easily summarize the levels of risk through various means of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. Safety Data Sheets contain more detailed information about any risks posed by chemicals or raw materials, along with handling, cleanup and first aid instructions. Georgies maintains a library of SDS forms for the materials we sell. To request copies, please contact us by phone, fax or email.

Macaloid Gum
Suspension agent which increases the drying rate of water in suspended glazes. Similar to Bentonite, but more desirable because of higher potency.

 | 0 - Skin | | 0 - Inhalation | | 0 - Ingestion | | CH337 Magnesium Carbonate
Source of magnesium in glazes. Imparts strength and color with little shrinkage. In large quantities it gives an opaque, dry appearance.

 | 0 - Skin | | 0 - Inhalation | | 0 - Ingestion | | CH338 Magnesium Sulfate
Also known as EPSOM SALTS. Used in small proportions, this material thickens glazes without becoming lumpy, so they adhere better to nonporous surfaces. Also acts as a suspending agent. Insoluble.

 | 0 - Skin | | 0 - Inhalation | | 0 - Ingestion | | CH340 Magnetite, Granular
A distinctly black, hard, dense and stable crystalline mineral form of iron oxide made from magnetite ore, useful in granular form to introduce specking into bodies and glazes.

 |
 | 0 - Skin | | 2 - Inhalation | | 2 - Ingestion | | CH341 Manganese Carbonate
A weak coloring oxide and powerful flux. In alkaline glazes it produces blue-purple or plum colors. In leaded glazes, it produces purple tinged with brown. Toxic in large quantities of the raw form, or with long-term chronic exposure.

 | 1 - Skin | | 2 - Inhalation | | 2 - Ingestion | | CH342 Manganese Dioxide (325m)
A stable oxide giving red, brown, purple and black tones to clay and glazes. Avoid prolonged inhalation.

 | 0 - Skin | | 1 - Inhalation | | 1 - Ingestion | | RM603 Mold Soap (nontoxic)
Sealer for Plaster. Mix 1 part soap with 2-3 parts warm water. Brush onto clean plaster surface to seal. Wipe away excess with paper towel and allow to dry for 10-15 minutes.
